Hello, my name is Philip Kim. I'm a filmmaker living in the Bay Area, and this is where I post all my film compositions. If you're in the area and in need of any help with making a video, email me at philipkim321@gmail.com, and I will help for a small charge!

Experimenting with Typography

My first typography that I made for straight 5 hours. While composing this, I found myself unable to stop, let alone take a small break. Animating text is a lot more exciting than I thought it would be. Hopefully this skill will help me lead on to more useful things in my film career (perhaps for title sequences or making PSA's). Incidentally, I really like the Mulan soundtrack.

Senior March 2012 (my first sucessful live performance)

Shooting live performances, other known as broadcasting, is completely different from shooting a film. Timing is key in a live show because you can never ask for another take if you missed something. That is why it is important to set up many cameras to cover up all the screw ups (cough my shaking hands cough). It was tough rushing my cameramen to suddenly understand the concepts of video composition and getting all the equipment in the first place, but through sheer determination and heavy amounts of editing, this spawned:

final projects for tisch

a narrative and a music video. both for some reason deal with generation gaps.

collaboration

had 4 hours to create this. 4 filmmakers. 4 music producers. the theme was beginnings. we got a flip camera, and it was a one shot film (only one take allowed).

-first hour
introduced ourselves (didn't know anyone)
agreed on a plot
calculated beats in the shot.
exchanged phone numbers with music kids
bought props (went to k-mart to buy baby stuff. register lady looked at us weirdly).
-second hour
composed the shot
shot the film. this consisted of me squatting and living like a 1 year old.
lots of sweat
lots of laughter
-third hour
act in another group's one shot film
-fourth hour
edit. this was extremely easy. all we had to do was mash the music and video together. just like making a sandwich.

FINAL PRODUCT.

i enjoyed the rush that we felt while making this. got my creative adrenaline pumping. DRUGS.

oh btw this is another one shot film i shot on the first week.

uh oh

some of my videos have vanished, due to the deactivation of one of my video accounts. don't panic. i know these are dark times, but if we cooperate, we can get through this...TOGETHER!
